Protesters in Fresno demand justice after ICE agent fatally shoots woman in Minneapolis

Demonstrators filled downtown Fresno Thursday night, joining nationwide protests after an ICE agent fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis earlier this week.

The shooting happened Wednesday when 37-year-old Renee Good was killed by ICE Agent Jonathan Ross in a Minneapolis neighborhood.

Video of the incident has circulated widely online, sparking outrage across the country.

"Abolish ICE right now. Abolish ICE right now," protesters chanted during marches in cities from Seattle to Chicago to Philadelphia.

In Fresno, advocacy groups including Peace Fresno and Central Valley Community Action organized a protest drawing about 150 people, including families.

Dan Yaseen, president of Peace Fresno and an immigrant who has lived in the U.S. for more than 50 years, urged the crowd to speak out.

"This is not the time to be silent," Yaseen said. "I've never expected I'm seeing what I'm seeing. I mean what a horrible way to start a new year."

Yaseen said he watched the video of Good's death multiple times.

"She was not posing any threat to anybody," he said. "I have watched this video many times and she was trying to get away but they just shot her in the head."

Federal officials offered a different account.

"That woman was there to interfere with a legitimate law enforcement operation," said Vice President JD Vance. "She was trying to ram this guy with her car. He shot back, he defended himself."

After speeches concluded in Fresno, protesters marched toward City Hall and Courthouse Park, chanting Good's name.

At one point, a person separate from the group waved a burning American flag as the crowd moved down L Street.

"It's time to get up, stand up, speak out," Yaseen said.
